Getting Ready to Go to A Writers Conference? Make Yourself More Memorable: Tired of being another face in the crowd? Try the following tips to make yourself more memorable when you are attending a Christian Writers Conference or book convention: Introduce yourself to others. No matter where you are, act as if you’re the host and try to make other writers who may be more scared or inexperienced than you feel at home (remember first time editors are nervous, too), and be the first to say hello. Make an extra effort to remember people's names—or take advantage of the name tags and address people by their name. The practice will help you remember it in the future. Use eye contact and smile when first meeting someone. Show others that you are enjoying your conversation with them, and give them your full attention. Don't look bored or have a case of roving eyes (trying to look for the editors and agents) when sitting at the mealtime tables. Be enthusiastic. People gravitate to positive, cheerful people. Be able to speak on a variety of subjects. Keep up with current events and especially current best-selling CBA books. Compliment others on what they are wearing, doing, saying, or writing but be sincere. And don't interrupt. Have your one-line handle that describes your next book project on the tip of your tongue. Be ready to give your “elevator speech” to anyone asking what you’re working on or what kind of writing you like to do.
